Embroidery Workshop – Encrusted Seascape, Ilkley

8 Jun 2025

10:00 - 16:00

Mrs Duttons Wondrous Workshops

In this full day workshop, create your own stunning seascape. Embellish it with shells, fabric, beads and stitch. You will begin by adding small amounts of organza to your background fabric and positioning your main shells. You will then learn a variety of surface embroidery stitches using a selection of threads to add interest and texture to your work. Seaweed, plant fronds and sea urchins, perhaps. Then discover how to embellish your design with beads to create pearls and shimmering effects.
The stitches on tutor Stephanie Palmer’s inspirational sample include:
Double sided blanket stitch
Chain stitch
Covered beads
Fly stitch
French knots
Pistil stitch
Stem stitch
Woven picots
Stephanie will also introduce you to Backstitch wheel, Bullion knot, Buttonhole stitch, Raised band, Star Stitch, Seeding, Trapped Items, Whipped Spider’s Web, Whipped Spider’s Web with an open middle, Woven Wheel & Wrapping.
All materials for this workshop are included.

No previous experience is required but those who have embroidery experience will be able to extend their repertoire with a range of unusual and interesting stitches.
