Denholme Community Centre was created in January 2018 to enable an asset transfer of the Denholme Mechanics Institute (DMI) from Bradford Metropolitan District Council.
It was during 2017 that the village first became aware of the threat of closure of the building by the Council due to budget constraints. Local people rallied together and a petition was organised to try and help keep the building open with over 900 people from the village putting their names to it.
The building was due to close on 31 March 2018 when the village would have lost its only community centred building. Our charity was formed with a group of local residents becoming trustees and they took over responsibility for the running of the centre on 1 April 2018 on a 99-year lease, of which they have an automatic right to renewal.
Today, we have many regular groups and activities taking place at the centre as well as hosting a variety of events ourselves.
The centre also houses the local Community Library, is headquarters to Denholme Town Council and our first floor is leased to local business Dance Factory Studios.
