Widescreen Weekend – How The West Was Won

Pictureville Cinema

Bringing together three of the best Western directors and a cast of Hollywood greats, this epic is a magnificent panorama of how the American west was won—and eventually lost.

The film tells the story through that of the pioneering Prescott family and covers several decades of Westward expansion in the 19th century, including the Gold Rush, the Civil War, and the building of the railroads. Told across five chapters and three directors, it is a story almost as big as the frontier itself and truly includes something for everyone, with adventure and romance in equal measure.

As a showcase for 3-strip Cinerama, it is spectacular. The panoramic scenes in their original Technicolour splendour, shown on our deeply curved screen, are simply breath-taking and the definitive way to watch this magnificent film.
