The Ordinary Chaos of Being Human

29 Jun 2024

10:30 - 11:30

Midland Hotel

Personal stories have the power to break down centuries-old walls between people, one story at a time. The Ordinary Chaos of Being Human: True Stories, Soul-baring Moments, No Apologies is a collection of 41 short memoirs from 35 countries to prove it.

Two schoolgirls in Yemen skip class and wander into a yellow circus tent. A Jordanian man spends a maddening summer cursing his loud neighbours. A young Bangladeshi-American argues with her father about her choice of boyfriend. An Iraqi soldier pines for an American journalist obsessed with someone else.

To celebrate the world release of this unique collection of stories at Bradford Literature Festival, contributors Saeida Rouass and Indlieb Farazi Saber along with editor Marguerite Richards come together to discuss how it feels to share matters of the heart in their work, and what it means to contribute to broadening the cannon of global voices.

Please note, the venue has changed from the printed programme.
