The Hamziyya of Imam al-Busiri

30 Jun 2024

17:30 - 19:30

St George’s Hall

Join us for the launch of the first-ever complete translation of Imam al-Busiri’s poem, Qasīdatal-Hamziyya. Shaykh Hamza Yusuf of Zaytuna College, California, who translated the text, will be accompanied by the Fes Singers from Morocco.

Qasīdat al-Hamziyya is less known than Busiri’s monumental Qasīdat al-Burda, but is a greater literary accomplishment, comprising 456 verses. Busiri’s masterpiece encapsulates the biography and virtues of Prophet Muhammad, making it a unique contribution to the tradition of the panegyric form.

Published by Abu Zahra Press and Sandala, this event offers the English-speaking world an insight into this time-honoured tradition.
