Join us this August for a prestigious gala screening of The Ceremony – a major cinematic event proudly hosted by Bradford 2025.
This award-winning debut feature by Bradford-born writer–director Jack King is a haunting, visually arresting road drama set against the raw beauty of Bradford and the Yorkshire Dales. Following its acclaimed world premiere at the 2024 Edinburgh International Film Festival – where it was honoured with the inaugural Sean Connery Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence – The Ceremony now returns home for an unforgettable evening.
The story begins with a stolen watch, a tragic death, and two migrant workers (played by Tudor Cucu-Dumitrescu and Erdal Yıldız) who make a fateful decision: to bury a young asylum-seeker (Mo’min Swaitat) in the hills. As they journey through the landscape with the man’s body, the pair are forced into a powerful reckoning – with grief, with each other, and with the land itself.
This special screening will be followed by an exclusive Q&A with director Jack King, producer Hollie Bryan and members of the cast, offering rare insight into the making of a film that’s already making waves on the international stage.
Don’t miss this chance to experience The Ceremony in the city where it was born – and to celebrate the power of bold, local storytelling on a global platform.
Beautifully shot in black-and-white, The Ceremony is set for further screenings in Bradford and beyond during 2025. Check back for more details – and visit ceremonyfilm.co.uk.
