Tell Studio Presents: Crowd Funding Independent Impact Documentaries

14:00 - 16:00

The Great Victoria Hotel

Join us in a workshop hosted by Tell Studio’s Owen Seabrook as he talks us through the process of making his award-winning documentary, Cut Short: Fighting Against Knives in the North.

Owen Seabrook is a director of social impact film and cofounder of Tell Studio, a Leeds documentary company that uses original stories of human impact to support the positive social aims of brands and national charities like Youth Music, War Child and Help Musicians.

His latest directorial work, Cut Short: Fighting Against Knives in the North, is an entirely independent crowdfunded knife crime documentary developed and produced by Tell Studio to demonstrate its central vision of designing film to create tangible social impact. The film won Best Documentary at Activists Without Borders Film Festival and its associated teaching package has been supplied to nearly 300 schools and youth organisations for free as a youth-friendly teaching resource to combat knife crime among young people. It has been described by teachers as ‘an educator’s dream’.

He is currently directing a piece on the funding crisis faced by the music industry, developing an eye-opening coproduction on spiking, and under the Tell Studio banner he continues to work alongside brands to translate their social and sustainable objectives into profile-raising human impact pieces.
