Qawali & Mehfil

18 Aug 2024

19:30 - 22:00

City Library

A relaxed evening to wind down Bradford South Asian Festival 2024. Join our headliners, the acclaimed Shah-E-Mardan Qawali troupe, which brings you spiritual joy and magical melody and is supported by young local Qawwals.

The evening will also feature a Mehfil segment, with local poets invited to share some verses. The event will be a joyous celebration of wordplay and music through a South Asian lens.

Shahe Mardan is a group of musicians based in Sheffield and Bradford who play Qawwali, a form of Sufi devotional music that stretches back over 700 years in South Asia. Lead singer and harmonium player, Mohamed Zubair, played with the world-renowned Qawwali musician, the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
