Due to popular demand – Bradford on Film returns to Pictureville!

On 16 October, come and enjoy a remarkable collection of archive films from the 20th century, preserved in the vaults of the Yorkshire Film Archive & North East Film Archive.

Packed full of curated content, this presenter-led screening will shine a spotlight on local filmmakers like Eric Hall and Fred Dewhirst, and reveal the film legacies of influential businessman and councillor Bob Sharp and professional film company CH Wood Ltd who both recorded the changing face of the district.

Highlights include a day out to Shipley Glen, Haworth and Saltaire, memories of Odsal, Kirkgate Market or the Blue Lace Nightclub and colourful local characters, including Mohamed Fazal Hussain, elder statesman and wannabe film mogul of Bradford’s Muslim community. Pete Morton

21 Sep 2024

19:30 - 22:00

Black Dyke Mills Heritage Venue

Pete Morton is a singer and entertainer with a wealth of self penned songs that express everything from the highly personal to the truly international. Often referred to as an old time troubadour he delivers an unruly mix of humanism politics, love, social commentary and humour, all wrapping its way around the folk tradition.

Originally from Leicester, England, Pete discovered the acoustic music scene at 16, and has been on the never-ending tour as a folk singer songwriter ever since. With his powerful, euphonious voice storytelling and compelling stage presence he continues his merry niche, singing songs, peace, justice, open global inclusion, with a fun, loving and approachable style.

Far From Refuge

19 Dec 2024

19:00 - 23:30

Nightrain

Far From Refuge has been refining their unique blend of metalcore, melodic death metal, and progressive metal, seasoned with a healthy dose of djent and electronica, delivering captivating compositions that entwine intricate guitars with antagonistic vocals to underpin engrossing commentary from the human condition to tales of cosmic interlopers, and anything in between.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as Periphery, Linkin Park and TesseracT, among many others, the band are carving their own path in the modern metal scene. The fruits of their labour were first revealed to the world in 2018 in the form of 3 singles, along with a music video. In February of 2019, their eponymous debut EP was released to critical acclaim, followed by two more music videos and another single.

Far From Refuge won the prestigious NMG award for best artists in the Rock catageory in 2021, and again in 2023 in the Heavy category & again in September 2024.

The EP False Flag was released in July of 2024, preceded by music video releases for the singles Ghost of Eros and Whitemane, to critical acclaim. The future looks bright for Far From Refuge, with an intense release pipeline of new songs & music videos, complemented by a schedule of concert slots where, as usual, their neck wrenchingly energetic, yet resoundingly melodious live performances will thrill audiences even farther away from their hometown of Cambridge.
