Outlines Festival – MAJOR! film screening

25 Jun 2025

17:30 - 19:00

Common Space

MAJOR! is a documentary film exploring the life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a formerly incarcerated Black transgender elder and activist who has been fighting for the rights of trans women of colour for over 40 years.

Miss Major is a veteran of the Stonewall Rebellion and a survivor of Attica State Prison, a former sex worker, an elder, and a community leader and human rights activist. She is simply "Mama" to many in her community. Miss Major's personal story and activism for transgender civil rights intersects LGBT struggles for justice and equality from the 1960s to today. MAJOR! seeks to create a living, breathing history of a community's struggle and resilience, as seen and experienced by those who lived it whilst also being a celebration of the life, work and activism of Miss Major, a pioneering trans activist .This is the story of one woman's journey, a community's history, and how caring for each other can be a revolutionary act.

As part of this year's Outlines Festival we are delighted to be presenting 'Reel Radical' a series of films celebrating LGBTQ+ activism on screen in collaboration with Bradford Queer Film Festival. Other films in the programme are Chocolate Babies (1996) at Pictureville on June 17th @ 7PM & Sally! (2024) at Pictureville on June 24th at 5.30PM.
