Ogbako Ndigbo UK Iriji Cultural Festival

24 Aug 2024

14:00 - 20:00

Life Centre Events, Wapping Road Bradford BD3 0EQ

The Iriji Cultural Festival is an annual harvest festival celebrated by the Igbo people of Eastern Nigeria. This festival is a highly revered event that showcases the rich Igbo culture and is an opportunity to celebrate the harvest season.

During this period, we show abundant love to members of the community and thank God for keeping us to partake in the harvest and share our food and drink with communities. In the UK, where there is a significant Igbo diaspora, the festival celebrates the collective successes of Igbo people in different endeavours and shows gratitude to our host communities.

The festival features traditional dances, fashion shows, lectures, and symposiums on topics related to our culture and others. This event is an opportunity to showcase our culture to our community and offer our wider community the chance to experience diversity. Each Igbo organisation across the UK attends the event with unique traditional creativity for men, women and children and competes with other Igbo associations present on the day. The overall winner is announced based on the uniqueness and creativity of their performance, and organisations prepare well for the day. This event is hosted by the local affiliate Igbo organisations - Igbo Union Yorkshire (CIC), a community integration and cultural heritage organisation comprising approximately 600 members residing in the West Yorkshire cities of
Bradford, Leeds, Halifax, Huddersfield, Wakefield, and environs.

The event promises to be fun and a good experience for the hosting community.
