Join us for an evening of poetry from some of the best poets in the north as part of the Haworth Festival.
Steve Ely has published over a dozen books of poetry, including Englaland, Lectio Violant, The European Eel and Lives of British Shrews. His latest book of poems, Eely, was published by Longbarrow Press earlier this year. Orasaigh, his collaboration with photographer Michael Faint, will be published by Broken Sleep Books in August.
Kim Moore’s first collection The Art of Falling won the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize. Her second collection All The Men I Never Married won the 2022 Forward Prize for Best Collection. Her first non-fiction book What The Trumpet Taught Me was published by Smith/Doorstop in May 2022. She is a Lecturer in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. A hybrid book of lyric essays and poetry Are You Judging Me Yet? Poetry and Everyday Sexism was published by Seren in March 2023.
Clare Shaw was born in Burnley and lives on the hills above Hebden Bridge. Their fourth poetry collection, Towards a General Theory of Love (Bloodaxe, 2022) - won a Northern Writers Award and was a Poetry Society Book of the Year. They lecture at the University of Huddersfield, and run workshops with Wordsworth Grasmere, the Royal Literary Fund and the Arvon Foundation. Clare is a dynamic and popular performer who has written and presented for BBC Radio 3 and 4. From community projects to international festivals, all of Clare’s work is marked by a deep faith in the transformative power of language.
Michael Stewart’s debut novel, King Crow, was the winner of the Guardian’s Not-the-Booker Award and has been selected as a recommended read for World Book Night. Other books include: Café Assassin and Ill Will: The Untold Story of Heathcliff (novels); two short story collections, Mr Jolly and Four Letter Words; and two poetry collections, Couples and The Dogs. And a hybrid memoir about the Brontës’ lives and landscapes: Walking the Invisible. His latest novel, Black Wood Women will be published in hardback in November 2024.
