Meet the Star of the Show – Christian Cartwright
Christian Cartwright is one of the UK’s most exciting theatre organists, known for his dynamic performances and ability to bring the mighty Wurlitzer to life. Christian is one of the younger generation of organists who is not only interested in playing, but also in the intricate restoration side of these fine historic instruments. He was taken to the Ballroom at Blackpool Tower at an early age and from around the age of 3 he started playing a keyboard. He first sat at the console of a theatre organ in January 1999 (the Wurlitzer 3/8 of Burton Town Hall) and has since played a varied selection of British and American theatre organs in concert and in private. Christian is also one of the Resident Organists playing the Compton at Pipes In The Peaks entertainment venue in Derbyshire. With a background in theatre music and a passion for vintage entertainment, he’ll have you laughing, clapping, and tapping your feet from the very first note!
The Magic of the Wurlitzer Organ
Originally built in 1937 for the Gaumont Cinema in Oldham, the Wurlitzer at Victoria Hall is one of the finest surviving theatre organs in the country. Unlike a regular church or concert organ, the Wurlitzer was designed to replicate a full orchestra, complete with drums, brass, strings, and even sound effects! It rises from beneath the stage on a grand lift, just like in the old movie palaces. Whether you’re a music lover, a fan of vintage cinema, or just looking for a fun and different way to spend your Sunday, this is a show you won’t want to miss!
Come for the Music, Stay for the Atmosphere!
Victoria Hall, a beautiful Grade II* listed building in the heart of Saltaire, provides the perfect setting for this spectacular, family-friendly event.
No booking required—just turn up, grab a seat, and prepare to be amazed!
First time visitors can take a tour under the stage in the interval to see the organ chambers which house nearly 1000 pipes and percussions
Don’t miss your chance to witness the magic of the Wurlitzer in action—come along and be part of this unique musical spectacle!
