Held Spaces for Writing

20 May - 19 Aug 2025

18:30 - 20:30

Common Space

Alternating online and in person, Held Spaces for Writing are monthly events where you can bring your current writing projects and progress them in a supported environment to help keep you on track, motivated and accountable.

We know completing (or even starting) writing projects can be difficult. Especially if it’s unpaid or self-led. Even if it isn’t, writing is hard! We all need some help from time to time, with carving out goals, being accountable, kick-starting, progressing and completing writing projects of all kinds. Held Spaces for Writing brings together a community of supportive writers to encourage one another to progress with their projects.

A member of the BPH team facilitates each 2-hour session and will bring their specialisms in either playwriting, poetry, songwriting, screenwriting, fundraising, marketing and more. The session will start with a group check-in and a quick goal-setting activity. You’ll then warm up your writing muscles in a 10-minute exercise themed around the host’s specialism. You’ll then have at least 1hr 15mins of uninterrupted writing time to kick start, progress, or complete your writing project.

These sessions are not just limited to those working on creative writing projects, you’re welcome to bring any kind of writing project to our Held Spaces for Writing, these might include:

- Creative writing such as fiction, poetry, screen and songwriting
- Copywriting for marketing, newsletters, websites, blogs, articles, reviews and other journalistic pieces etc.
- Fundraising bid-writing
- Presentations and speeches
- Essays and coursework
- Report writing
- Journaling and letter-writing

If you don’t have a specific writing project but want to practice your writing skills, you’re welcome to join us and undertake a range of writing exercises and activities.
