Bradford Queer Film Festival is delighted to present Layla (2024) dir. Amrou Al-Kadhi in collaboration with Curzon as the opening night film of our 2024 festival on the eve of its national theatrical release.
When Layla, a British-Palestinian drag performer performs an iconic and outrageous act at a painful corporate Pride event, they catch the eye of Max, a straight laced advertising executive. As their romance develops, trouble in paradise soon arrives and Layla is torn between worlds, what will they do for love? For themselves? For happiness?
A love letter to friendship, community and being true to yourself, Layla is a poignant exploration of how love alters our lives and an essential story for our time.
This semi-autobiographical love story is the feature debut from screenwriter, drag legend and author Amrou Al-Kadhi. Setting the tone for this year’s Bradford Queer Film Festival, Layla is an opening night feature not to be missed.
