This Series of Care 2-part workshop is for artists and creatives of Bradford to enhance their awareness and understanding of LGBTQQIA+ audiences and those living with disability through an interactive workshop hosted by Quiplash.
This 2-part workshops will demonstrate how disability and queerness are connected, and touch on historical, cultural and regional differences for both disabled and LGBTQ+ communities. These sessions will be relaxed with breaks and plenty of space to chat and ask questions.
This event is hosted by Quiplash, who in their own words, are here to take space for queer crips (quips), further queer crip performance, queer accessibility, and f*ck sh!t up!
This day will comprise of 2 sessions of which you are welcome to attend one or both.
- 10 AM – 12.30 PM: Disability Awareness
- 12.30 PM: Lunch (all welcome)
- 1.30 – 4 PM: LGBTQ+ Awareness
Disability Awareness session
During this session, we will
- Cover some of the major principles around disability and accessibility including models of disability and principles of disability justice
- Unpack how language works in different disabled communities and identify what is considered good practice in the UK
- Engage in exercises that help people think through the principles we discuss and how they can apply this knowledge to their own experiences
- Workshop different tactics for embedding access into different spaces and ways of working
- Have a lot of time for questions and chatting
- Cover some of the major principles around LGTBQ+ identities, activism and politics
- Unpack how language works in different LGBTQ+ communities and identify what is considered good practice in the UK
- Engage in exercises that help people think through the principles we discuss and how they can apply this knowledge to their own experiences
- Workshop different tactics for making LGBTQ+ inclusive spaces and ways of working
- Have a lot of time for questions and chatting
