Guided walk: Burley to Ilkley. Bradford on Foot programme

2 Aug 2025

10:00 - 12:00

Start: Burley in Wharfedale train station car park. Finish: Ilkley town centre

This scenic walk in Wharfedale is part of the City of Culture's “Bradford on Foot” guided walks programme, and it is being led by Bradford Fairtrade Zone.
The walk ties in with Ilkley’s "Yorkshire Day Celebration Weekend" which features live music all day, a Yorkshire Day market, a Yorkshire beer festival, family activities in the Riverside Park and Manor House museum, and much more.

(See Discover Ilkley's website for the events schedule: https://discoverilkley.co.uk/)

The moderate walk takes a lower level route from Burley, before joining Ilkley Moor to go past the famous Cow and Calf rocks. It then heads towards one of Simon Armitage's poetry trail Stanza stones, before going past Ilkley Tarn and dropping down into the town.

The walk is 6km / 4 miles. Some of the footpaths are rough and uneven. Have suitable footwear and clothing, and bring a snack and drink. Dogs on short leads welcome.
