A joint exhibition between Bradford multi-disciplinary artists Lauren Kelly and Jess Swift, including 'In Full Colour' their eponymous, collaborative piece, exploring the minds of these two young, emerging artists and bringing together the similarities in their work.
Ken Woods of Trapezium Gallery says, “We are delighted that friends Jess and Lauren, have teamed up to exhibit their vibrant work. Not only are they upcoming artists in their own right, they also work tirelessly to champion the arts throughout Bradford.”
Lauren works across painting, collage, photography and digital art. Her practice explores themes of nostalgia, youth culture, and the aesthetics of hedonism. Through layered processes, she evokes a sense of dreamy retrospection, where memory bleeds into fantasy. Pink appears throughout much of Lauren’s work, not just as a colour, but as a kind of cultural code, a lens to explore how memory selects and distorts through screens, trends and taste, how aesthetics can soothe or provoke, and how prettiness can exist without apology. Some of the work mirrors digital culture itself.
Jess primarily works in abstract painting and contemporary sculpture. Her work explores neurodiversity and alternative learning methods through colours, textures and processes. Much of her work is expressive and is a reflection of her emotions and experiences. Jess says: “As a dyslexic artist, my paintings are an expression of my reclaiming ownership and I encourage the viewer to partake in the process. I create many layers so people can immerse themselves in the progression of the work. The bright, contrasting colours evoke pleasant feelings, while also retaining the underlying experience of how my mind works.”
