Thursday Talk: The story of the Brontë Parsonage Museum and its collection

22 May 2025

14:00

The Brontë Parsonage Museum

This talk looks at the fascinating story of how the collection at the Brontë Parsonage Museum came together, and how it continues to grow as exciting new discoveries of Brontëana come to light.

The Brontë Society was established in 1893, committed to the preservation of the family’s surviving manuscripts, letters and possessions. Within two years they had opened their first museum in Haworth, before their acquisition of Haworth Parsonage in 1928.

We’ll explore the development of the Brontë Parsonage Museum, the work that goes on behind the scenes, and some of the film and TV adaptations of the Brontës’ lives and works, which have played an important role in the Museum’s history.

This talk will be given by Ann Dinsdale, Principal Curator at the Brontë Parsonage Museum and author of At Home with the Brontës: A history of Haworth Parsonage and its occupants.

Thursday Talks occur twice on the day: once at the Museum and once online.
