Join Bradford Fairtrade Zone’s walk to mark World Fair Trade Day.
Starting from Kipping Gardens in Thornton, at the junction of Kipping Lane and Thornton Road, the walk will cover mixed terrain – ranging from cobbled streets near the Bronte Birthplace, and Bradford’s urban paths and cityscape, to open country near Clayton and Scholemoor. Learn more about Bradford’s industrial history, and finish by crossing City Park’s mirror pool and fountains to arrive at Bradford's impressive Grade 1 listed City Hall for a special welcome.
Fairtrade supporters around the world will be celebrating how the global Fair Trade movement supports, and collaborates with, farmers and workers in less-developed countries, and we will explain how Fairtrade helps towards the Sustainable Development Goals – everything from ending poverty, hunger and inequality, to tackling climate change and protecting the environment. Bradford has been a Fairtrade Zone since 2006 and, together with Bradford Council, we promote Fairtrade and its social, economic and environmental sustainability aims.
The walk is Walk 9 of the Bradford District Fair Trade Way, which is a scenic, circular walking route linking all the district’s Fairtrade towns and villages. The walk is 5 ½ miles / 9 km and is moderate to hard with some climbs, muddy sections, rough track and uneven pavements. There may be livestock in the fields. No dogs.
The walk will be led by experienced walk leaders at a fairly easy pace, and will include a lunch break. Strong footwear essential and suitable outdoor clothing. Bring a packed lunch and drinks.
