On Saturday, February 1, we will be holding a prayerful procession through the city centre of Bradford in honour of the historical patron saint of the city-St Blaise-praying for the city and its people. St Blaise, who is the patron saint of wool combers, has long been honored in the city of Bradford in connection with the once-thriving wool industry. Processions on his feast day were held as early as the beginning of the 19th century.
We will meet at 10:00 am in Centenary Square (in front of City Hall) to ask for God's blessing upon the city. Then, we will process to the old Wool Exchange Building (now Waterstones) to offer devotional prayers in front of the statue of St Blaise on the façade of the building. Finally, we will make our way to St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church (Sedgfield Terrace, BD1 2RU), where we will offer the traditional blessing of throats through the intercession of St Blaise, who is depicted in the Fattorini stained glass window in the church.
This event is organised by St Patrick's Mission, an apostolate of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and the Catholic Diocese of Leeds.
