Roots & Rhythms: Sounds of Black British Music

5 Jul 2024

19:00 - 20:00

The Alhambra Theatre

Inspired by the British Library’s major exhibition, Beyond the Bassline: 500 Years of Black British Music, we welcome two icons of the Black British music scene: Manchester legend DJ Paulette, one of the Haçienda’s first female DJs, and Mykaell Riley, Director of the Black Music Research Unit and Co-Curator of Beyond the Bassline: 500 Years of Black British Music

Immerse yourself in the music that defined generations as these living legends share the songs that inspired them and their reflections on lives lived in an industry that hasn’t always welcomed them.

Beyond the Bassline: 500 Years of Black British Music runs until Monday 26 August at the British Library in London. You can also get a taster of the exhibition at a pop-up display featured at Bradford City Hall, Friday 28 June – Sunday 7 July.

This event is co-produced with the British Library.
