Imam Ali: From Concise History to Timeless Mystery

7 Jul 2024

15:00 - 16:00

The Alhambra Theatre

Join author Dr Reza Shah-Kazemi and historian Barnaby Rogerson to discuss the intricate dimensions of Imam Ali, the fourth caliph of early Islam, who serves as the fountainhead of Shi’ite and Sufi lineages.

Delving into inspirational and controversial aspects of Ali’s life, spanning ethical, individual, political, and social realms, this discussion will look at the historical perspective alongside the spiritual. Through a unique portrait, Ali is unveiled as a paragon of statesmanship, chivalry, and mysticism, embodying both action and contemplation.

Despite potential sectarian divides, Dr Shah-Kazemi emphasises Ali’s potential to unite Islam as a symbol of wisdom and compassion, offering insights accessible to both Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
